About Me

I am a high school English teacher who discovered climbing at the age of 27.  I’m almost 40 now, and proper training, recovery, and nutrition is a nonnegotiable.  Throughout my 30s I started snowboarding, surfing, kiteboarding, running, and lifting weights too.  Outside teaching school, I dedicate time to these sports as well as training and educating myself about training, recovery, and nutrition.  This blog is dedicated to sharing tips, resources, and inspiration to help all lifelong climbers continue to enjoy and perform in the sports they love.

The only place to start is where you are! In an effort to move that line a little, I have been hitting the track twice a week for the last few weeks to get ready for mountain biking season to start. Although there have certainly been dry and warm enough days to have already hit the trails on the bike, life and work have not really allowed for that just yet. I have not so much as gone into the shed to squeeze the tires. I have just been doing super easy runs. 2-3 miles of walking, running, and calisthenic stuff on the track. Have also been stretching, thera-gunning, and foam rolling my quads and IT band more, so hopefully this season will be free of knee troubles caused by tight IT bands and knotted quads.
Thanks Hooper’s Beta on YouTube for the hang board workout! Couldn’t do it all… I “fell” a few times… added no weight… but we are off to Colorado and couldn’t get to the gym tonight, so looking for the closest alternative. Hang boarding has always felt like I’m doing it wrong… so we will see how this as a starting point :)
In addition to fancy pull ups, also going to try to blog more cause I like it. :) Any other inspired goals out there?

I’ve been reading this awesome book about masters athletes. (Athletes over 35) It seems that older athletes tend to eat so much better than younger athletes because we realize the importance of nutrition. Eat more protein eat more carbs. I average 80ish grams pf protein a day and probably 100ish grams of carbs. #mastersathlete #trainingfuel #fuelyourbody
